Zero to one

Maybe it’s our upbringing, maybe it’s our environment, maybe the negativity of those around us, or perhaps our very own, but the fact of the matter is that we live in a world where anything is possible, and yet we choose to settle for the bare minimum. Not because we couldn’t do more, I think we all have that looming feeling in the back of our heads that we’re meant for greatness, or do more, or be more, but it’s just easier to pop open a cold one and watch some Netflix when you get home than to learn a new skill, a new language, to read something useful or to hit the gym.

There’s this wonderful quote I stumbled upon a while back that’s attributed to Warren Buffet (I think it originated from Samuel Johnson), who said, “The chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.” and it perfectly describes our modern-day condition. Day by day, the chains of comfort silently increase their hold over us until we get so miserable in our daily lives that we can’t take it anymore. Our potential and the ghosts of what we could have been haunt us so viciously that somewhere along the way our spirit reaches escape velocity. We reach a point of no return where we literally can’t stand the current state of affairs any longer and make a lasting commitment to change, regardless of the challenges and obstacles this may imply. And challenges and obstacles are guaranteed.

But it all starts with the will to change and one small step into the unknown. An embrace of uncertainty, vulnerability and inescapable social judgment, and a shedding of one’s fears, expectations and attachment to the results. A letting go of the illusion of control we so tightly cling to and entrusting ourselves to the very intelligence that brought us here in the first place. In other words, a leap of faith. This is just what this blog is meant to be for me. A first step on a journey that I can’t yet see unfolding in my mind, but my inner compass has been pointing towards for quite some time now. I will be sharing some of the lessons and experiences that shaped me into who I am today, alongside other things I find interesting and worth sharing: Quotes, ideas, actionable intel and connections between some or all of them. I hope you’ll find my writing insightful or, at the very least, entertaining. I, for one, was never capable of learning from the mistakes of others. Perhaps you’re built different.
